Well, Fortune did have this question: Why this sweet-looking horse is a major headache for Wal-Mart? and this from Business Insider: Wal-Mart is reportedly furious over this hilarious website and wants to shut it down. Jeff Hess: Have Coffee Will Write.

In a tale about Lindsey Stone, I came across this passage: At Farukh’s request, Lindsey had been emailing him photographs that didn’t involve her flipping off at military cemeteries. She’d been providing biographical details, too. Her favourite TV show was Parks And Recreation. Her employment history included five years at Walmart, “which was kind of […]

The Arkansas-based Conservative Tribune—I swear, I thought the site had to be a Stephen Colbert fan site—wants to put a positive spin on events this week. Wal-Mart, long the whipping child of leftist labor movements, did something unexpected this week: they announced, free of any prompting, [emphasis mine, JH] that they’re giving their low-wage employees […]

Makes “Check Out” look like a masterpiece.

Anybody remember Check Out? It clearly died a long time ago. However, the Walmartians’ Twitter feeds are alive and well and perhaps even more dull. Based on a link from the post immediately below this one I started with this guy and died of boredom shortly thereafter.

“In fact, it does not matter what Wal-Mart does. We will still hate it.”

Gawker is the last place I expected to find a Walmart screed. It’s actually pretty good, in a snide, profane, Gawkeresque kind of way.

5,000 is a lot of posts for a blog, but we’ve made it! And no, I’m not talking about this pathetic post of mine, but Smiley reading the Great Dictator right below it. This one is 5,001.

I don’t agree with Arlene Jones on many points, but I want all our readers to visit her blog and think about what she has written about Walmart in Chicago. Clearly, Jones is a woman who is on the street and thinking about her community. That is far too rare. From the Austin Weekly News: […]

Slacker victim humor is a sub-sub-genre that must have some fans somewhere, I’m just not one of them. We’re supposed to get this kind of snipe hunt debasement out of our systems in early adolescence. Some people take longer than others. Perhaps Joe Peacock can get a job working for Paul Rust. Jeff Hess: Have […]

One of the marvels of the human brain is its ability to selectively erase certain memories. This can be good. For instance, if women remembered, in perfect detail, every moment of pregnancy, the human race would probably have died out millennia ago. Another example might be the way that I, and other former military personnel […]

I guess I’m going to Hell too.

Much in the manner of my dear friend Jeff, I read this, and immediately thought of this. I’m guessing it has something to do with all that fatty meat…

Apparently it takes genius to put up a web site and enable comments.

Apparently, Walmart is engaging massive audiences online using social media. How do we know? Walmart told some blogger and then everybody Twittered it (see the comments). Personally, I’m skeptical. After all, these are the same people responsible for Checkout (which now has 16 authors and about one post per month).

Please sue them. Pretty please.

People of Walmart [You can find it yourself. I’m not linking.] is now raffling t-shirts with a variation on a certain familiar smiley face to people who fill out their survey.

“People of Wal-Mart” takes a page from Walmart.

Monday, September 28th, 2009

Did you know that “People of Wal-Mart” has an FAQ page? You can find it here. It’s an opportunity for the guys behind the site to law down the rules of propriety: How do I know if my picture is appropriate? If you think the person would be classified as “a Walmart shopper” then chances […]
