Looks like it’s time for another meat post.

Thanks Wal-Mart Watch. I’ll just post the link so that Jeff’s stomach can settle before he reads it.

DO YOU SUPPOSE WE SHOULD WARN THIS GUY…?

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

We’ve published so many horror stories about food, especially meat, here that I’m starting to get a queasy stomach just writing about it. So much so, that I want to tackle Supafunk and beg him to drop the crab legs and step away. Did some grocery shopping at Super Wal-Mart (w/ the seafood counter) over […]

Another Example of Monopsony Power

Tuesday, July 31st, 2007

Fashion firm Liz Claiborne has starting selling a new line through JC Penney. It’s biggest customer (Macy’s) has decided to take revenge: At Liz Claiborne, a Bold Fashion Statement Macy’s slashed orders for the Liz Claiborne brand by millions of dollars. “You have lost your most-favored-nation status” at Macy’s, Mr. Lundgren told executives at the […]

This is so “freaking” wrong.

This is what happens when you question authority at Wal-Mart. From the New Britain (CT) Herald: Edwin Lopez, 47, a city resident, was fired after seven years on the job for charges he claims were fake. He said his firing had more to do with race and that other current and former Wal-Mart employees have […]

“Never give a sucker an even break.”

Monday, July 30th, 2007

Last night, I saw this post by save_the_rustbelt at Angry Bear which weighs some pros and cons of Wal-Mart. All the pros, have to do with the Wal_Mart MoneyCard. So I wrote in the comments: Have you ever seen the fee schedule on one of those money cards? and linked to it. Here’s the response […]

WAL-MART JUST DOESN’T UNDERSTAND…?

Monday, July 30th, 2007

OK, for the writers here at The Writing On The Wal, my headline ought to be plainly obvious. But more and more I’m reading others, often pro-business and Wall Street gnome types, who are coming to much the same conclusion. Take this bit from Markham Lee. [Wal-Mart] released a statement on Thursday discussing their expectations […]

Jeff Hess: Have Coffee Will Write.

AT THE WALLY PLEX…

Friday, July 27th, 2007

There are sound stages on Hollywood’s back lots smaller than Bentonvile’s behemoths, so it’s no surprise that budding video talent has been sneaking cameras in at odd hours. And now for the midnight show at the Wally Plex featuring joshuaspetter. Jeff Hess: Have Coffee Will Write.

IF WE IMPEACH HIM, WHERE WILL HE GO…?

Jeff Hess: Have Coffee Will Write.

“Organic” is so last year.

Brian White at blogging stocks is a nice guy. I read his Wal-Mart column every week, and the only time I ever felt the need to criticize it he dropped in to this space and couldn’t have been nicer. Nevertheless, this week’s column, really bothers me. I see where Brian is going, but he seems […]

AND NO MENTION OF WAL-MART…!

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Could this be a good sign? Is it possible that Wal-Mart actually cleared its shelves of dangerous, botulism-infected canned chili, stew, hash and other foods? Could it have gotten it right this time? Or did the inspectors just not look on Wal-Mart’s shelves? We can all think good thoughts. Jeff Hess: Have Coffee Will Write.

WHY CAN’T WAL-MART GO NATIVE…?

Friday, July 27th, 2007

Sam Walton was a brilliant Southerner. Unfortunately, we focus too much on the brilliant part and forget his Southern roots. That explains why as Wal-Mart has moved out of its incubator problems have risen. Like these in Japan: Partly as a result, the fired employees and current ones as well have created a climate of […]

Yet more dangerous food.

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

I’m not too impressed by this one because as a Westerner I’ve had them in my garage before, but Wal-Mart Watch has a whole magazine devoted to this subject and much of it is incredibly damning. PS I’m not worried about prairie dogs with bubonic plague either.

It looks like today is recall day.

Thursday, July 26th, 2007

From News 2 Denver (via Wake-Up Wal-Mart): Two Denver-area Wal-Mart stores have been found to be selling a baby swing that’s the subject of Consumer Product Safety Commission recall, despite one woman’s effort to alert store management to the problem. “I am so angry that they would jeopardize the life of a child in any […]

As if we couldn’t see this coming.

Nazi t-shirts, dog food – Now chili sauce. From the Hattiesburg (MS) American: A D’Iberville woman says the chili sauce she bought from a store in South Mississippi could have been contaminated with botulism. U.S. federal authorities are asking consumers to throw away more than 90 different Castleberry’s Food Co. products, including chili sauce. Eva […]
