WHAT’S REALLY AT STAKE…
With all the hoopla over Edelman and Wal-Marting Across America, I thought it was time to check back in at the other Wal Mart astroturf blogs. I took some time this morning to stop in at Working Families For Wal Mart and read What’s At Stake:
Working families choose to shop at their neighborhood Wal-Mart stores to save money, save time and to get everything they need in one convenient place.
They also shop at Wal-Mart because the Walmarting of America process has left their traditional neighborhood stores vacant relics and in the process leached money from the community to fuel the Bentonvile Behemoth and the authoritarian Communist regime in China.
And associates choose to work at Wal-Mart because it offers good wages, solid benefits and a chance at a career.
A career with a wage cap? A career where the system is being gamed to force workers with seniority out? A career where the company expects them to work off-the-clock and without breaks?
But some union leaders in Washington, D.C. don’t want working families to benefit from Wal-Mart. These union leaders want to tell us — America’s working families — where to shop and work.
Or perhaps some union leaders think Wal Mart employees deserve to treated linke people and not production units that can be treated like pallets of pickles with a just-in-time employee management system.
