WAL-MART LEAVES TOWN AT THE ALTAR…

Officials in Thompson Station, Tennessee feel jilted. They spent hundreds of thousands of dollars on infrastructure improvements so that Wal-Mart could build a Supercenter, and Wal-Mart decided to take its cheap, Made-In-China, plastic crap elsewhere.

Thompson Station wants its money back.

Good luck.

From The Tennessean:

Members of the finance committee met Thursday and discussed sending an itemized list to Wal-Mart of expenses and lost revenues the town had counted on. The town also has the option to draw on a letter of credit Wal-Mart left for the town.

“We’ve got an $875,000 letter of credit theoretically we could draw,” said Town Administrator Greg Langeliers. “We’re going to lean on those funds and try to get that.”

The letter of credit expires at the first of next year, so the town will be preparing an itemized list to send soon. “We do want to give them every opportunity to respond,” Napier said. “We’ll only use the letter of credit as a last resort. We don’t want to get antagonistic about it.”

No. You wouldn’t want to antagonize Wal-Mart. It might buy your town and turn it into an automated distribution center.
