In all-night SWAT standoff at a Santee mobile home subdivision led to the arrest of a 52-year-old man, who reportedly became enraged after Wal-Mart employees at two stores refused to exchange his ammunition.
Deputies said Milton Watkins, 52, went to a Lakeside Wal-Mart with his ammo at about 8 p.m. Saturday. When employees refused his request to accept the merchandise, which is prohibited by corporate policy, he became irate and threatened the employees, promising to return to kill them all.
One employee wrote down the man’s license plate as he drove away in a station wagon.
Minutes later, Watkins appeared at the Santee Wal-Mart with the same request. But those employees also reportedly refused his request to exchange ammunition, deputies said.
Watkins threatened to shoot the Santee employees, walked out to retrieve and load his gun, and fired shots into the air before driving away, witnesses told deputies.
Deputies traced the license plate and found Watkins at his mobile home in the Town & Country Mobile Home Lodge, 10000 Prospect Avenue in Santee, deputies said.
