Has anyone at Wal-Mart ever heard of objectivity?
This deserves some serious follow-up. From “Andy Sernowitz’s Damn! I Wish I Thought of That!”:
Who knows more about products than a stores’ salespeople?
Wal-Mart employees are now encouraged to post reviews of products on Walmart.com. More important, they do it the right way, with an icon next to each employee review, so you know exactly who it’s coming from.
I checked the review Sernowitz cites and I don’t see any icon. [If the reviewer is a Wal-Mart employee, he must be management because he claims to have read the book while on vacation.]
However, even if there is an icon on employee reviews and I just missed it, I’d still have a problem with this because Wal-Mart employees are not objective. Indeed, if reading BBCAmerican has taught me anything, it’s that I really don’t want to take any advice from Wal-Mart employees. Whether they’re hostile to customers, the company or both, Wal-Mart employees don’t exactly have my best interests at heart.
