I’M BACKING WALMART ON THIS ONE…
Part of me wants to think of this as two junkyard dogs gnawing on each other, but when Walmart’s right it’s right. That Tom Coughlin is claiming emotional distress just makes me want to see him squirm even more. From The Associated Press:
[The] trial is to start Thursday in a lawsuit by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. in which the retailer seeks to avoid paying millions of dollars in a retirement package to former executive Tom Coughlin.
Coughlin has filed a countersuit, but dropped one of the three claims in a Monday filing. A lawyer for the former Wal-Mart vice chairman said the breach of contract claim would be redundant if Coughlin wins.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. sued Coughlin in 2005 in Benton County Circuit Court, claiming it should not have to pay Coughlin because he embezzled hundreds of thousands of dollars from the company. The benefits were estimated at between $12 million and $16 million.
Sheesh.
How ironic the trial is on the heels of well publicized anti-union ,political activity on WalMart’s part very recently. If I remember correctly, Coughlin’s defense was that he stole a quarter mil from WalMart to fund anti-union activity.
Shalom Schaden,
Actually, I believe that that was what he was supposed to be doing with the money.
Instead he was nailed for spending it on himself.
B’shalom,
Jeff
