LIVING ON PLANET PALIN…
I really, really wanted to respond to Ed Morrissey’s pronouncements concerning Walmart, Unions and the Employee Free Choice Act but the blogger formerly known as Captain Ed has restricted comments to his loyal fans. That’s really too bad.
The union battle continues against their Great White Whale, Wal-Mart. Last week, affiliates of the group Jobs with Justice began sending missives to Wal-Mart stores in several states, including Maine, where the flyers below originated.
They try to claim that Wal-Mart has a “workplace dictatorship” and that their support for a secret ballot in union organizing elections is hypocritical because Wal-Mart doesn’t have votes in their workplace on other issues. No, seriously. The most amusing part of the campaign comes in the “Workers Ballot,” which unlike the cards in Card Check, doesn’t require its recipient to identify themselves.
It does, however, ask the recipients to out other employees who want the union.
Well, maybe Ed and his readers will come here were we welcome the conversation.
And what kind of conversation might Ed have with John Mackey?
There is a nice discussion going on on DailyKos.
I think this part is worth noting:
Walmart and allies are focusing on the second point, since it would force them to settle a contract through compulsory arbitration, if necessary. With the NLRB becoming more labor friendly they are worried about this becoming meaningful (again).
Shalom Robert,
I once worked for a brilliant and extremely hard working business man who told me with no humor in his voice that he would burn his company to the ground to prevent a union from taking over.
I’ve always wondered what event in his life created that extreme level of irrational hatred.
B’shalom,
Jeff
