YOU CAN FIGHT CITY HALL WAL MART…

Sometimes the good guys do win, when the prosses is fair, open and the people get a chance to vote. That’s the message from the election in Lorain County, Ohio, according to John Ryan, head of the AFL/CIO in nearby Cleveland, Ohio. Writes Ryan:

Wal-Mart shelled out $280,300 to pass a rezoning measure but was defeated 59-41%; opponents of the Wal-Mart store only spent $15,802 to defeat the measure. Wal-Mart tried to sell the same thing it did in it’s successful (non-voted) drive at Steel Yards Commons: jobs and tax base. The difference is Steel Yard Commons in Cleveland was not voted on by the citizens of Cleveland; instead the deal was cut behind closed doors.

Thank you out-going (please keep going and going and going) Mayor Jane Campbell for your backroom dealing and show of contempt for the voters of Cleveland.

Thanks to Jill for the tip.
